Former 12th-century Cistercian abbey, l'Abbaye de Beaulieu-en-Rouergue est devenue l’écrin d’une exceptionnelle modern art collection in dialogue with a garden of a thousand roses. Pure et élégante, elle impressionne par sa clarté et sa sobriété, typique du gothique méridional. La collection Brache-Bonnefoi compte plus de 1000 œuvres (tableaux, dessins...) de 151 artistes différents dont Vasarely et Hentaï.

History of Beaulieu Abbey
L'abbaye de Belloc, un "Beau lieu", a été fondée au XIIe siècle par des moines cisterciens, puis modifiée au XVIIe et XVIIIe siècle.
Le choix du lieu n'était pas un hasard... La présence de l'eau était fondamentale pour créer des canaux et viviers. Le bâtiment est typique de l'architecture cistercienne et respecte l'humilité et la sobriété propre à cet ordre. L'abbaye a été en partie démantelée à la Révolution pour être déplacée à Saint-Antonin.
C'est en 1953 que le couple de collectionneurs d'art Geneviève Bonnefoi et Pierre Brache découvre l'abbaye. Après d'importants travaux de restauration, un centre d'art est inauguré en 1970. Il s'agit aujourd'hui de l'une des plus importante collection d'art moderne d'Europe.

Beaulieu Abbey
The abbey is open to the public all year round, except January (excluding school vacations).
You can discover it at your own pace thanks to the open house accompanied by explanatory documents in five languages, or opt for one of the guided tour of the site's history and the remarkable Brache-Bonnefoi collection of modern art, presented in the former monks' dormitory.
Throughout the year, during Zone C school vacations, we offer creative and educational workshops are available for children to explore and have fun at the same time.
Finally, from June 1 to September 30, a restaurant/tea room is available on site. Enjoy lunch or a gourmet break in pleasant surroundings, either indoors or on the shady terrace.

Year-round entertainment :
Beaulieu-en-Rouergue Abbey offers educational workshops for children every Wednesday during the school vacations (zone C), as well as a program of events throughout the year. Discover the program here !
