Industrial village
The history of Laguépie
In Laguépie, the valleys open gently between Ségala and Rouergue. Here, two rivers meet, the Viaur and the Aveyron, and with them, centuries of history caress the banks.
The village sits there, quiet and authentic. Its history goes back a long way.
Laguépie was once a barony, closely linked to the lords of Château de Penne (Tarn). The Château de La Guépie, perched just above the village, bears witness to this. The village flourished under Napoleon I, who officially granted it commune status. Then came the 19th century. Industrialization transforms the landscape. Shoe factories sprang up, and buildings of rough charm still punctuated the streets. At that time, Laguépie was also one of the first villages in the country to see the arrival of the train., Even today, the small railway station is a lively hub, linking the village with neighboring towns such as Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), Rodez (Aveyron) and Figeac (Lot).
