Detailed description: In 1643, the great genius Claudio Monteverdi died and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, one of the great exponents of the French Baroque, was born. This programme shows the relationship between the two musicians.
Five years later, the Roman Carissimi, Charpentier's teacher, composed the famous biblical oratorio Jephté, considered to be one of the finest masterpieces of the Italian Baroque, illustrating the passage and continuity of Monteverdi's legacy.
The splendours of these timeless pages transport us into a world of spirituality, theatricality and shared emotions.
This programme is presented by the baroque orchestra Les Passions and the chamber choir Dulci Jubilo, conducted by Jean-Marc Andrieu and Christopher Gibert.
