Preview on 15 July and after the Festival on 25 July 2025!
The Cordes sur Ciel Festival leaves Europe and crosses the Atlantic to honour the soundscapes of the Americas. This journey will take us to North America, with a stopover in New York with a choir and big band based on the musical comedy repertoire, notably Bernstein's West Side Story, then on to Los Angeles for a tribute to the famous Quartet, which has masterfully served the minimalist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
We'll also be travelling through South America: Argentina to the rhythm of the tango in Astor Piazzola's version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Brazil with the great composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, or with Franco-Brazilian composer-in-residence Michelle Agnes and her singular world of sound, Cuba with pianist Harold Lopez-Noussa, and Paraguay to discover the guitar works of Augustin Barrios.
With performers from both sides of the Atlantic, and from the Occitanie region in particular, the programme will highlight the cross-influences between America and European composers, from Ravel's jazz influence to Dvorak's 'American' Quartet and other links and filiations to be discovered. As always, it will build bridges between the arts, and in this year 2025 dance will be a guest at the Festival.
It promises to be a rich, eclectic and joyous edition.
