The Atelier-Galerie La Sève is a place for exhibiting works in plant lacquer and for teaching, with regular classes, half-day introductory courses and courses lasting several days. Marie-Dominique Boneu Hyman is a Toulouse-born artist who has been pursuing an independent career in Asia for over 20 years and now lives in France, where she has set up her studio in Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val.
She exhibits and sells original works in vegetable lacquer as well as numbered and signed reproductions of originals.

Kintsugi is a Japanese restoration technique inspired by the Wabi-Sabi philosophy of seeing beauty in imperfection. It is a symbol of resilience and answers many contemporary questions: a support for personal development, a path to healing, a meditative art, it also questions the way our society consumes.

After an explanation of the Kintsugi philosophy, you will concentrate on putting back together the broken piece (2 to 4 pieces) that you have brought with you. You can also buy a piece at La Sève. Making clay mastics (sabi jinoko and tonoko)
On day 2, the clay putties are sanded to apply the black lacquer. The gilding is done in the afternoon. Packing for transport.

Over the course of a week, you will complete a composition based on a chosen theme, using lacquer on a pre-prepared wooden panel.
You will be able to experiment with inlaying eggshell and/or mother-of-pearl, drawing lines, marking the 1st layers using seeds, drops of water, and spraying silver or mother-of-pearl powders.
You will then apply layers of different covering colours, before sanding to reveal your painting. The days of the course are busy, but the drying day allows you to relax in the medieval village of St-Antonin-Noble-Val.

Half-day Lao stencil :

Workshop inspired by the gold leaf decorations in the temples of Laos
. After a presentation on vegetable lacquer in Asia, you will polish your lacquered panel.
. Choosing the Lao motif and deciding on the composition.
. You will then fix the stencil and apply the clear lacquer with a sponge.
. Finally, apply the gold leaf crumbs and reveal your design.
2 Day Silver Stencil Workshop :

On a 25X30cm frame previously prepared for gilding, you will decide whether you want a Laotian motif or a personal motif that you have brought along and that you will cut out yourself. The application of silver leaf will reveal your design.
On the 2nd day, after drying, you can age the silver and create oxidations before applying a final coat of protective lacquer. After lunch, we'll pack your work for transport.
