"Echoes of America" by Dulci Jubilo and l'Autre Big Band

Detailed description: The immensity of America, its potential and possibilities, its paradoxes and its star system fascinate as much as they question. The artistic production of the New Continent is an echo of these multiple aspects and of this cinematic "American dream". But there can be no visual ideal without powerful musical accompaniment! So the Dulci Jubilo chamber choir joins forces with the l'Autre Big band for an exceptional evening featuring some thirty artists on stage! On one side, 16 singers led by choirmaster Christopher Gibert; on the other, 13 instrumentalists co-directed by Malo Evrad, Etienne Manchon and David Pautric. A cappella voices mingle with wind instruments on a selection of American favourites. The programme features Leonard Bernstein, a key figure in twentieth-century American music, made famous in particular by his musical West Side Story; a lesser-performed but equally enjoyable work, Mass; Samuel Barber with an a capella reinterpretation of his famous Agnus Dei; Kenny Wheeler with excerpts from Music for Large and Small Ensembles... This festive event is an ode to travel, a plunge into the finest pages of 20th-century American musicals and choral music.
